I've been trying to source different silks for my collection.  These are the ones i've found and will use within my capsule collection:

I've incorporated some 'stocking' tops in my collection too, heres an image to give you an idea what it will look like:

Also, i've decided to incorporate a print within my collection, after sorting through heaps of Aboriginal artworks i decided that this print would be best for the collection.  It will be printed on silk habatue and will be used for the linings of the garments as well as some of the pieces.  Heres a fabulous website full of amazing aboriginal artworks, where I found the piece below. http://www.aboriginal-fineart.com.au/

Sudden Serendipity

I'm currently sitting in my room waiting for dinner, and a rush of satisfaction, relief and accomplishment has kinda just hit me. 
I have had a fabulously productive day finally...
After weeks of staring at a blank illustrator window I've finally hit a breakthrough for my swimsuit illustration. 

Would you belief it only came after I inserted an emu's head onto my pose?

OK i know I'm starting to sound delirious, but that sudden burst of creativity has actually saved my illustration!

Amazingly enough it is looking pretty cool! I promise i will post pictures soon.

For now you will have to be satisfied with my illustrations for my completed capsule collection, which I'm very happy with.

I'm yet to source the fabrics although i know exactly what I'm looking for!

Spontaneity

Have you ever tried being spontaneous? Not so easy.

I've been trying for the past week with my fashion illustrations until it suddenly dawned on me this morning, that by trying to be spontaneous my work is looking more controlled and static than ever.

Luckily upon having this realisation and a couple of glasses of red, plus some inspiration from Molly Grad's 'spontaneous'  fashion illustrations, my gosh i think i might be onto something! Her website is coming soon http://mollygrad.com/

I also found these illustrations, i think the colour schemes would work well with my Australiana concept

Oh and just for fun, heres one of Molly Grad's  runway shows (coincedently shes the head designer from swimwear label GOTTEX). appropriate much?

Blah.

Today has been one of those days. If you haven't realised by now, I'm very highly strung and easily stressed out. So add some problems with my potential exchange to Milan and not having any clue with what to do for my illustration as well as a long list of assignments i have due in the next week, i was not in a great mood.  I feel as though i have so much to do and not enough time to do it. Although I've finished my tech drawing, i'm really stuck on my illustration. I think its because there are just so many things I could do with it.  I think I'm just going to do another illustration, becuase the one i was playing with on illustrator looks so computerish kinda like a black and white logo, in other words not what i want.

 So goal for this evening is to:

1. take a deep breath
2. do a tech drawing of one of my resolved capsule collection designs (will post a picture next post)
3. attempt a new line drawing illustration
4. finish my portfolio for my Milan Exchange Application. 
5. watch an episode of blackbooks with a hot chocolate and draw

Illustration Fascination

o, I've spent ages trying to think of how to present my fashion illustration for my swimwear and so far have not come up with me, so i'm back to researching presentation and CAD Ideas: here are some of my favourite images i've stumbled upon. I'm praying that one will inspire me.

If the Sample Fits

A week ago now, we were able to fit our swimwear on a model.

To tell you the truth i was a bit disappointed because mine didn't fit the model as well as i wanted it too.

All i could see when she tried it on was all the mistakes. That probably wasn't such a bad thing as i was also thinking of ways to fix them.  One of our design teachers, Jillian helped me fix my pattern so now i'm trying to seek the motivation to make this swimsuit one last time!

On the sample there were a few major things that i want to look at changing:

  the straps need to go over and under the bust- rouching will be added to the pattern to create shape
• 
  
  the legs are a bit too highcut so i'm going to lower the leg about one cm
• 
  
  the sides need to be taken in a bit on the bust
• 
  
  it looks horrible around the crotch area

Overall it should be not too hard to fix, although at the moment I'm really struggling to get going and start the final swimsuit.  I've done my pintucks but i'm actually really scared of ruining the fabric so i've been quite hesistant to sew. I've got to get over my fears and just get it done!

Weave

The final type of fabric we have to consider for our capsule collection is woven fabrics.  I have a sudden obsession with pants at the moment and think that a pair of light pants would be very suitable for my target market as well as practical for going on holiday.   

I've been inspired by the pin tucks used in my swimwear as well as pleats as think they fit well with my stretch wear and cover ups.  My journal is a bit mismatched because I've been drawing the stretch wear, cover ups and woven garments styled together.  This has helped to inspire me with my designs as well as giving me ideas for my styling. 

Overall I have a clear direction with where I am heading with my capsule collection however i want to push it so that each garment is pushed as far as they can go.  I'm going to do this by redrawing my favourite designs and editing them as well as taking fabrics and prints into consideration.  At the moment I'm thinking the colour scheme will be in sun burnt colours mixed with olive greens but this could change as i keep going with my design development.
